Introducing Hierarchical Porosity in Architectural and Structural Design
The current research is focused on the implementation of hierarchical porosity in the field of architecture and, particularly, on the appropriateness and use of stereotomic models in order to generate, articulate and evaluate intentional voids in architectural and structural design. This study is carried out, firstly, through the elaboration of the corresponding theoretical framework and, based on it, through the development of an operative method grounded on the stereotomic approach. This operative method is based on the application of the Boolean subtraction operation to integrate spatial and structural parameters in the conceptual phase of the design process. Finally, this research examines the application of the method in an academic environment and its potential implementation at full architectural scale. .
